on the back of before showcases four contemporary choreographers—abdiel figueroa reyes, erin kilmurray, kinnari vora, and phill “phree" wood—and the early works of postmodern icon trisha brown. spanning a wide range of aesthetic and formal approaches to dance, the overall production is characterized by its attention to holding space in common, whether live or mediated, or for the purposes of celebration, ritual, or mourning. featuring 40+ dancers and a top-notch design team, on the back of before reminds us what the ephemeral gestures of our lives leave behind.
