Sworn Sisters in the Wind and Dust
Join us for a staged reading of Amy Ng’s new translation and adaptation of a 13th century Chinese classic, Sworn Sisters in the Wind and Dust, directed by Helen Young. Sworn Sisters is a zany, razor-sharp comedy, based on Rescuing one’s Sister, a play by Guan Hanqing (ca.1224-ca.1300). If Guan is “the Chinese Shakespeare," then Rescuing one’s Sister is his Taming of the Shrew––except this time, the women win. The reading will be followed by a post-show discussion with Amy Ng and Patricia Sieber, Professor of Chinese literature at the Ohio State University, moderated by dramaturg Yiwen Wu.
