TAPS Professor Tina Post has been honored with the esteemed 2023 National Book Critics Circle (NBCC) Award in Criticism for her outstanding work, "Deadpan: The Aesthetics of Black Inexpression," published by NYU Press.

Amidst a landscape of exceptional literary achievements, Tina Post's groundbreaking exploration into the realm of Black inexpression has captivated the literary world. "Deadpan" offers a profound examination of silence, stoicism, and subtlety within Black cultural expressions, shedding light on their profound significance in art, literature, and everyday communication.

NBCC Committee chair J. Howard Rosier praised Deadpan as “a book that recontextualizes the act of withholding to taxonomize its origins and uses—specifically, the tact it assumes when intersecting with blackness.”

In celebration of Tina Post's remarkable achievement, the TAPS department extends its warmest congratulations, recognizing her as a trailblazer in the field of literary criticism and an invaluable asset to the University of Chicago TAPS community.
