New Play Development coursework

TAPS 24050 and 24051

Fall 23 quarter -- Wednesdays 12:30-3:20pm in Logan 501

Greetings aspiring playwrights and theater makers!

If you are interested in participating in an exciting new play development course as a playwright, actor, dramaturg, or director - then you are in luck this fall!

Created by TAPS instructors Devon de Mayo and Calamity West, this exciting course (TAPS 24050) explores the new play development process from first to second draft and will culminate in a staged reading at the end of the quarter. All the roles of a traditional production process will be a part of this collaboration: playwrights, directors, actors, and dramaturgs. We will both study the process of developing a second draft of a play with a collaborative team and develop three student plays in this manner. The class is studying the art, theory and process of development as well as working on our feet to try our hands at what we are discovering.

All students who are interested in participating as directors, dramaturgs or actors are welcome to register for the companion course TAPS 24051 during the regular enrollment process at my.uchicago.edu.

We look forward to reading your work!
