FINA (Fee-nah) - The Musical: This is an ask for the development of a musical in a genre that the Latiné play cannon hasn't seen. The idea for this project came to me because of my experience as a survivor of narcissistic abuse and parallel parenting with my abuser.  This musical will feel like a cross between Alfred Hitchcock/Agatha Christi and Octavia Butlers work.  We begin in the dining area of an aristocratic Peruvian home of Guillermo Cervantes on the eve a political insurrection. On this night it is a dinner party with family members and artists.  The family begs one of the artists to tell an after dinner story. He decides to comply and tell a story about a woman from the future, Fina.  It's not till the end of the play that we realize the artist is a seer and is telling the story of Guillermo's granddaughter and his great grandchildren and aims to convince him NOT to overthrow the government. Guillermo Cervantes is a real character and the great great grandfather of my two children.  He disappeared leaving his wife and children without any money and his grandchildren emigrating to different countries to find better opportunities. I'll be researching his life and connecting the fabric of how this horrible loss affected his family for generations resulting in rippling generational trauma.  The musical will play with noir and contemporary design elements that create a weaving of time and evolution of song through an afro-peruvian lens.  The audience will be left with a Musical thriller that has them questioning their own complicit behavior within their families and the US government. I will use this time to begin to develop songs and the script with my collaborators, Satya Chavez and Tony Bruno.
