TAPS PhD student Andrei Kureichik was recently featured in MPR News for his collaboration with Theatre Novi Most on the documentary play An Ocean Away. The play draws on personal testimonies from Minnesota’s Ukrainian community, including families, refugees, and former soldiers, and uses staged interviews to explore themes of war, exile, and resilience. The production stages these real-life narratives to create an intimate, community-rooted performance that amplifies voices often overlooked in mainstream theatre.

“‘An Ocean Away’ has been a deeply emotional journey as I worked to keep faith with the people I interviewed — to honor their grief, their humor, their stubborn hope. In their stories, I heard the music of survival and the promise of repair,” Kureichik tells MPR News. Read the full article here.

The Committee on Theater and Performance Studies congratulates Andrei on this meaningful and impactful work.
