Court Theatre, the professional theatre of the University of Chicago, received nine 2025 Equity Jeff Awards for its world-premiere production Berlin. The production, adapted by TAPS Lecturer Mickle Maher (TAPS Lecturer) from Jason Lutes’ graphic novel, features movement direction by Julia Rhoads (Director of Dance, TAPS), assistant direction by Eleni Lefakis (TAPS 25’ alumna), and dramaturgy by David Levin (TAPS Lecturer, Post-Dramatic Theater), Marissa Fenley (Harper-Schmidt Fellow & Collegiate Assistant Professor in TAPS), and Jo Selmeczy (TAPS major).

Berlin investigates the rise of fascism in Weimar Germany through a fusion of graphic-novel aesthetic, ensemble performance, and movement-based staging, and also involved UChicago students through an Adaptation Laboratory course offering hands-on experience with the creative team. Read more about the awards here.
