Gaby Labotka - Rare Wolves
It’s 1597 Germany or 2024 America—it's hard to tell the difference these days. People face violence and banishment because of their ability to transform and transcend societal norms. RARE WOLVES is an evocative collection of tales about a pack of transgender and nonbinary individuals decried as monsters by their families and communities.
Seeking refuge from persecution, our pack of Rare Wolves forms a humble utopia in the woods, where they nourish their humanity and discover love, acceptance, and joy within their self-made community, becoming powerful beyond imagination.
This play blends historical and contemporary narratives through anachronistic vignettes and sequences that capture the feelings and experiences of trans and nonbinary people today. These sequences, rich in dance, movement, poetry, and music, provide a deep, visceral connection between past and present struggles and triumphs, creating a powerful and moving theatrical experience.
