TAITAITAITAITAI makes installations with materials that melt. These dioramas look like alterations on inorganic materials as structure where organic materials as content can be seen to succumb to the elements of time and force. The aim is to create universes where the invisible forces that shape a person’s decisions about how to share their identities and circumstances can become more visible. Through a connection to her viewer’s proprioceptive, tactile, visual, and olfactory senses, she hopes to create spaces for nonverbal catharsis and contemplation. She was born in Taiwan, raised in Latin America, and educated under “American” cultural values. Her art making stems from her performance work as a dance, fitness, and yoga professional in the last fifteen years. She obtained her MFA in Visual Arts at the University of Chicago, MS in Translation Studies at New York University, Certificate in Dance Performance at Peridance Capezio Center, and BA in Psychology and Dance at Washington University in St. Louis. She was recently named a 2026 NewCity Breakout Artist 2026. Recent showings include the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, The Graham Foundation, Museo Universitario del Chopo, Siren Arts, W.I.H.S.H. projects, Leisure, No Nation Art Lab, Comfort Station, and Northwestern University.
