King Family Arts
Jarius "ManOfGod" King is a performing artist, visual artist, Black Arts instructor, and cultural connector living life in 3D — as a dad, DJ, and dancer. A Chicago native and member of Motion Disorderz (U.S.A.), his dedication to Black Arts ("Street Dance") began in 2000.
Drawing from music, dance, martial arts, and creative movement, King has developed an unorthodox artistic voice shaped by decades of global experience — from performing for the NBA to competing and teaching across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. He is also a professional DJ and event MC known as King G.N.S. (pronounced "Genius") and includes music selection and event programming as parts of his practice.
King's practice spans both the performing and visual arts. His multifaceted project “For The Record” explores Afro-Sino relations, identity, and global anti-Blackness through an amalgamation of relief printmaking, bookbinding, paper-making, 3D printing, and 2D mixed media — incorporating marking traditions of East Asian calligraphy and aerosol art, martial arts, and Black vernacular dance forms. Rooted in his personal experiences as a Black man navigating the world, the work forges connections across geographic and cultural boundaries, placing particular emphasis on Black/African-descendant and Asian communities and their evolving relationships.
Community engagement lies at the heart of his creative endeavors. King co-founded Breakin’ The Law: International Festival of Urban Movement in 2004, which grew into the largest annual dance festival in Wisconsin's history, with qualifiers spanning Hong Kong, Capetown, Panama City, and Manila. That same spirit drives his ongoing workshops, collaborative showings, and presentations — inviting communities to witness, participate in, and be transformed by the intersecting art forms, cultures, and ideas that define his practice.
Solomon King (王爾諾) and Sheina King (王安妍) are students from Hong Kong.
Sheina is a visual arts enthusiast with interest in choreographed dance and fashion. Solomon is a drummer with several years experience and dedicated interest in transportation vehicles and machinery.
Their involvement in the arts began and continues as a family practice and they’ve contributed visual works and film media to “For The Record” since 2021. They will continue their collaboration by lending their knowledge of Cantonese and written Chinese, interviews, and will assist in aspects of production and documentation of For The Record.
